| Installing postfix from source. It doesn't do the usual configure, make, make install routine...and the fresh install instructions seem to indicate that checkinstall will not work. Has anyone used checkinstall on a fresh install of postfix. ken |

Yes, quite a while ago - and it didn't work, though I failed to make a note of why. Might have been something to do with permissions. There are postfix packages on Linux Packages, though I prefer to compile it from source. Simply make and make install with the defaults works fine here. atb Glyn -- RTFM http://www.tldp.org/index.html GAFC http://slackbook.org/ The Official Source :-) STFW http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...inux.slackware JFGI http://jfgi.us/ |

Simply make and make install with the defaults works I wrote a script that uses slacktrack to compile postfix. It's not perfect but it works quite well, you need to change CFLAGS to match your architecture and run trackbuild.postfix from root. I don't use mysql, if you want you can change postfix.build to support it. http://gufo.dontexist.org/builds/Postfix.php Gufo -- ,___, Never trust an operating system. When you say "it's not perfect" what do you mean? What are the problems? > http://gufo.dontexist.org/builds/Postfix.php Hmm - some nice stuff on your site! atb Glyn -- RTFM http://www.tldp.org/index.html GAFC http://slackbook.org/ The Official Source :-) STFW http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...inux.slackware JFGI http://jfgi.us/ |

Maybe i'll write some best template with error handling, and correct all my build script when i'll have the time. > Hmm - some nice stuff on your site! Might have been something to do with permissions. Yeah, didn't look like it was going to work with checkinstall....thanks for the info. Much appreciated. ken |

I didn't find a solution to skip all the configuration questions yet, does anybody know a way to do it? "make non-interactive-package" is supposed to work without user intervention, but it seems to be broken. Gufo -- ,___, Never trust an operating system. No, but I found something better. You'll naturally need to edit this to your tastes. http://slackpack.tripleg.net.au/gene...der/SlackBuild IIRC, the last (and only) time I built postfix from this script, I only had to edit the VERSION variable and download the latest source code. - -- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
