Default Which TV card?

I am interested in getting a TV card. I want to watch TV on my computer. I
would also be interested in recording programs. Somewhat like I used to do with
my VCR.
Can someone recommend a unit? I run Slackware and a Debian derivative.
Thanks

Easiest way to start is with a bt878 chipset tuner card. It is well
supported and works great under Slackware. They are very reasonably
priced on ebay.

while that is truth (bt878 does rule indeed) vast majority of cards work
ok. of course, a recent kernel is quite important.

Seeing as I've been using my computer as a vcr for over three
years, the kernel clearly doesn't need to be _that_ recent
(unless you have new and exotic tv card, I suppose).

Just get the best one and run windows with it. That way you can't
go wrong. Video with linux is terrible.

cordially, as always,

The exact reason I chose the bt878, it's been there and done that for a
long time

I spent a good part of the day looking for a low priced card and then tried to
find out what chipset they used. Boy! is that a waste of time. I was unable to
find what chip was used so I am still looking around. I did see some that were
called win tv cards. Does this mean they are like the winmodems? They only work
with Windoze?
I see some that are under $50.00 US and that would fit my pocket book but I
have small pocket and can't afford to waste.

I just found a site with a big list of cards with the bt878 chip. Now all I have
to do is look for one with a reasonable price.
Thanks much.
