Default some questions about slackware developement

Hello !

I think slackware is a pretty good OS. Simple, but working. But the way
it's beeing made is quite amazing for me. It's not easy to understand
who does what, so I have a few questions for thoses of you who know
slackware better than me :

- Who is slackware ? Is there any one else besides Patrick Volkerding ?

- Who makes the decisions ?

- Is there a forum, mailling list, newsgroup or something else that
slackware developers use ? By the way, is there any slackware
developers ?

- Is there any way Patrick Volkerding communicate other than with the
ChangeLog ?

- Is there some sort of a bug tracker, something like bugzilla ? Where
do I report bugs ?

- Who is responsible for the security updates ? Who is security@slackware.com ?

Thanks for the answers !

Nicolas

Answering only to the best of my knowledge ... corrections from someone
who knows better would be appreciated ...

Mainly, it's Patrick Volkerding. Arguably it's also the user community,
but I doubt that this is what you were asking about.

Patrick has accepted contributions from others (as noted in the
changelog), but to the best of my knowledge, he is the only person
presently officially associated with Slackware.

Patrick Volkerding

Email, I suppose. I've also read that Patrick Volkerding sometimes
frequents IRC, but I have no direct knowledge of this (or which IRC
channel he might use). He has, on very few occasions, posted a message
to this newsgroup, but leaves no indication that he reads messages here.

Yes: Patrick Volkerding

See above.

Email is likely preferred.

(quoted from the AOLS FAQ)

Contact information for Slackware is listed at:
http://www.slackware.com/contact/

> - Who is responsible for the security updates ?

Patrick Volkerding

> Who is security@slackware.com ?

I imagine Patrick Volkerding, though there's some possibility he has
help.

I believed that was a contribution rather than official association,
though.

I think you are confusing Andrea(wife) with Briah Cecilia(daughter).

Arrrr, then ye'll get ye corrections!

Who would ask ye "Who is Slackware"? Slackware ain't no one. It's a
linux distribution, not a person! O' course, many people liken it t' a
person.

Arrr, the short answer be "None o' ye business". The long answer be
there are a great many people that contribute, but Pat has full say in
t' end results. Wit' that said, he give me all the room I wanted t'
make the second edition o' the slackbook, an' didn't micromanage me an'
me mates.

Arrrr... that be Cap'n Patrick J. Volkerding, Scourge o' the Seven Seas!

>> - Is there a forum, mailling list, newsgroup or something else that
>> slackware developers use ?

The short answer be yes. The long answer be that there be many. Ye'll
see some o' the more well known contributors like Piter Punk on IRC,
an' other's ye'll find here more often. Some are on freenode an'
others on oftc.

Arrrr, e-mail be Pat's preferred way o' communicatin', 'ceptin' the
Changelog o' course. Ye'll rarely see him on IRC, mostly just err a
new release t' yell at the scurvy bilge rats t' get their arses t' work
an' setup the BitTorrents.
