| Hello, Upon starting KDE 3.5.4 (as root or user) on a fresh Slack 11 install, I receive the following error message: "The application Soundserver (artsd) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)" Backtrace shows: (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1". (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] [New Thread -1217481024 (LWP 408)] (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) (no debugging symbols found) [KCrash handler] #3 0xb7ed79e7 in Arts::PlayObject_base::_create () from /opt/kde/lib/libkmedia2_idl.so.1 #4 0x08055108 in ?? I have tried recompiling arts-1.5.4 and upgrading to arts-1.5.5 (each installed fine). These still produce the same message. Permissions are 777 on /dev/sound/* . As I said, sound works fine except for kde's soundserver. I've been searching for a solution all morning. There are alot identical questions out there, but no answers. Thanks for any input. Nate |

I always try to cut down slackware instalation size by removing unnecessary pkgs and libs. I found out I had to install 'libtheora' and 'xine-lib' - if my memory serves me well - for it to work correctly. Cheers |
