Default Sound disappears after (apm) suspend-resume cycle on laptop.

I am running Slackware-11, kernel-2.4.33.3, on an IBM T21 ThinkPad. The
sound device is "Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion
Audio Accelerator".

APM is not loaded by default, so I have to load it after boot-up (I know
there are ways to automate that, but that is irrelevant). After the system
goes through a suspend-resume cycle, sound disappears. Whether ALSA
modules are loaded or OSS (by disabling rc.alsa and commenting out OSS
modules from blacklist), immediately after a suspend-resume cycle (at
which time, the kernel [or APM] *re-loads* most modules, as far as I
know), the sound disappears. Music players don't really report any error
-- they just refuse to play.

I had a similar problem when I was running Slackware-9.1 on this laptop.
The work-around was to disable ALSA, and use OSS modules instead -- this
work-around was suggested somewhere on the ALSA website, as at that time,
ALSA did not have proper resume support of modules. I tried the same
approach (that of using OSS modules) on Slackware-11, but to no avail. I
also disabled ACPI by supplying a boot-time parameter, without getting
anywhere.

gnubien at #alsa (FreeNode) suggested I push my luck with the 1.0.33
version of ALSA (Slackware ships with alsa-*-1.0.11). I have not yet given
it a go. Any other suggestions before I test 1.0.33?

Check the suggestions on this page to work around this problem:

I use a similar APM setup on Slackware 10.2 and it works fine.

Thanks, Joe. I'll see if that helps.
