Default slackware 11

I have an old laptop which run winxp pro and slack 10.2... I have been
running slack10.2 for a while now and I'm kind of curious if I should
upgrade it to the lastest version. My laptop only has 256mb of memory.
Should I go head and move to slack 11? or should I just continue to
keep on using slack 10.2? What are the benefits of moving to slack 11?
If i decided to move to slack 11 should I just backup my personal data
and do a clean install? or should I try to upgrade it? Any help/info
would be appreciated.

I haven't noticed any significant memory changes between 10.2 and
11.0, but I have 2GB of RAM. ;-)

Latest and greatest stuff. There wasn't any one thing I particularly
needed this time.

That's the official recommendation. I never used to do that, but now
I do regular backups so it's not a big deal to do it before the
install. If you decide to wipe it and do a fresh install, I highly
recommend at least backing up /etc so that you can refer to it later.

I've never had anything go horribly wrong during the upgrades.
(Nothing that wasn't my fault, anyway!)

I haven't done a clean install on this machine since I got it a few
Slack versions ago. I'm a big fan of the instructions in UPGRADE.TXT.

I'm runnng an old 366 laptop with 128mb RAM and have seen no performance
issues switching from 10.2 to 11.0. Other than being curious as to what
was new on 11, 10.2 would still do everything I wanted. It wasn't broke
and yet I still fixed it! My bad.

Thanks guys! I guess I'll go ahead and upgrade my laptop to 11.0 this
weekend. Thanks again for the info...

6. Fix your config files.

I'm sure everyone has their own procedures for this, but regardless of
whether or not you use the "little script" Patrick lists there...

....vimdiff is great for editing the new config files.

You will loose gnome support.
The gnome restoration scheems were built with the wrong kernel version.
(so far)

10.2 didn't support GNOME anyway, did it?

I used to use freerock, but it hadn't been updated in some time. So
with the switch to Slack 11, I moved to the much-maligned Dropline.

Dropline no longer replaces X, which is great, and in fact doesn't
seem to replace many more packages than freerock does. I don't have
any complaints about it. (Disclosure: I don't use GNOME--I just run
the GNOME apps in fvwm2.)

Thanks to all of you for all the information. I went ahead and did a
clean install. So far so good. There are a couple of things that I
need to work on, however.
1. When I ask the system to shutdown it doesn't do it. I have to do it
manually.
2. My USB mouse doesn't work.
The way I remember fixing these 2 issues in the past was by upgradeing
the kernel to 2.6...
I guess I'll just go ahead and upgrade this one to whatever 2.6
version came with slacware 11 unless you guys have any other ideas?
Thanks again for all your help/info...

If you're running the 2.4 kernel uncomment the line
#/sbin/modprobe apm
in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
