Well, gee. You're asking this stupid question in the Slackware newsgroup.... what do you think we'll suggest? Slackware. duh. -- "Ubuntu" -- an African word, meaning "Slackware is too hard for me". |

I would guess it will run out of the box, but you will need to tell the installer to use scsi, as the default is ide. I believe that when booting the install disk, you have some options: F2 and F3. You will find a scsi setup on F3. I use scsi here myself. The default kernel is 2.4.33.3, which will work: I'm running that on this box even as I type. If you have problems getting started, speak up: you'll get chaff and help. John. -- jkherr at power - net dot net (wipe the spaces) |

"don't run" how? Does it fail to boot? If so, there are numerous 'cheat codes', one of which will probably make it work. If you're having difficulty with Knoppix, you're likely to have issues with whatever you try. > > Who know what linux is good for this CPU ?? |

You'll have to format (fdisk) your scsi disk before installing slackware... There should be some readmes on the install disk. ? John. -- jkherr at power - net dot net (wipe the spaces) |

| Zearid wrote: > Don't work .... > Error is " Can't find knoppix file system....." or think .... I've seen that on older systems when trying Knoppix-5.1. Slackware runs fine on them, though. I had one where I would "boot" the system from the Knoppix cd in one CD drive, then while it was performing its preparations and other grooming, I would switch the CD to a different CD drive (machine has two CD drives), where it would indeed find the Knoppix root file system and carry on its merry way. It's an ugly hack, of course. Try an older version of Knoppix if you really want to see Linux running on this system before biting the bullet and installing Slackware, or just dive in and install Slackware (make sure you boot the installation CD with an appropriately configured kernel for your SCSI controller; check the documentation first). You'll be fine. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylvain Robitaille syl@alcor.concordia.ca Systems and Network analyst Concordia University Instructional & Information Technology Montreal, Quebec, Canada ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |

You might try some other Live CDs, or you might have a look at the 'cheat codes' listed on the Knoppix home page - there would be a decent chance that one of them might work. |
