I heard a rumor that there is a large, large, huge company on the prowl for a Linux acquisition... and I wonder if Pat might entertain selling out.... on the condition that Slack be 'modernized' a bit. I doubt it, but you have to wonder why this version is coming out so soon after the last. Makes for good gossip... and will lead to a wonderful set of flames by Dan, leader of the wild pack of dogs who seek to dominate this group! :-) Al |

"We" meaning 'most everybody except you, rm'. as opposed to the rm royal 'We' meaning 'me and only me'. HP is right, we're all still here. -- William Hunt, Portland Oregon USA |

It is under development, work in process. Are you unaware of the slackware-current/CURRENT.WARNING file ? Let me quote it for you: " [Standard disclaimer follows... ] " " Welcome to Slackware-current! " [...] " Slackware-current is a snapshot of the active Slackware development tree. " It is intended to give developers (and other Linux gurus) a chance to test " out the latest packages for Slackware. The feedback we get will allow us " to make the next stable release better than ever. " " See the ChangeLog.txt for a list of changes in Slackware-current. " " Please note that the code in this directory is unstable. It might be " inconsistent about which version of the Linux kernel is required, could be " incomplete because it's in the process of being uploaded, or might not work " for other reasons. In most cases, we know about these things and are working " to correct them, but still -- feel free to point out the bugs. " " Enjoy! " " --- " Patrick J. Volkerding " volkerdi@slackware.com > > I heard a rumor that there is a large, large, huge company on the prowl <homer_simpson_voice> oooooooooooohhhhhhh $$$$$$$$$$ </homer_simpson_voice> > for a Linux acquisition... and I wonder if Pat might entertain selling ummmm, why would ALLH Co. want to buy a one horse show ? What kind of assets might Slackware have to attract ALLH Co. ? Couldn't ALLH Co. just hire a geek and fork their own? > out.... on the condition that Slack be 'modernized' a bit. Maybe it's time to start the 'next release date' pool. I'll make the baseless guess, July 4, 2007. > Makes for good gossip... only if you enjoy spreading falsehoods and misrepresentations. > and will lead to a wonderful set of > flames by Dan, leader of the wild pack of dogs who seek to dominate this > group! :-) You give Dan too much credit.
