Default OT: faxing with openoffice

Hi,
This is not a slackware issue but the openoffice.org folks don't
seem interested.
I have a linmodem which works and sends faxes using kdeprintpax, a
front end for efax. I tried to set up openoffice writer, using spadmin, to
fax directly but so far I have had no luck. When I choose the fax option
under print (with a document open in writer) I am prompted for a phone
number. I have tried numerous options for the phone number format but I get
an "error while printing" message. I am beginning to think that maybe this
option only works with all-in-one type printers or fax machines and not fax
modems.
I would appreciate help from anyone who has made this type of thing
work.
Thanks, jwc

I got to the same point and found that kdeprintfax is invoked with the
fax number as argument but it does not expect any number so it is
interpreted as a file name.

You can check the box "Fax number will be removed from output" in the
fax printer properties and use kdeprintfax to insert the phone number
number thought OO will still prompt for a number.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the "Fax number will be removed from output"
in spadmin but that hasn't changed anything; I still get the error message
no matter what I do about the phone number.

I checked again my setup and it shows that I also added as command in
the printer properties:
"kdeprintfax (TMP)"
You can get a description by clicking the help button.

PS: I'm assuming you are using OO 2.x

I joined a forum but so far there has been no reply to my query. As a result
of your post I checked the web page you refer to. A problem identical to
mine was posted last month but so far it is classified as unconfirmed.
Thanks, jwc

Giovanni,
Adding "kdeprintfax (TMP)" in spadmin causes the kdeprintfax application to
be called up when I send a fax using OO2.1. I still have to provide the
phone number there but that is still better tnan calling kdeprintfax
separately. Thanks for your help.

Can you tell me what it was logged at? I had a quick look and didn't see
anything this is why I gave you the link. But maybe I shouldn't do things
within the first 20 mins of getting up and before I've had my first coffee
