I'm using an AMD500 with 256Mb RAM and Opera 9.20. The older 6.11 ran just about ok on this, but 9.20 is like running in treacle. Everything else is snap-to-it fast except Opera. I tested the shared version, had to install QT, and the static version which might be slightly less sluggish, though I may be kidding myself, so I dumped QT and stuck with Opera static for now. I tend to use Dillo for most of my browsing so I don't waste my BB capacity by sand-trapping things through Opera. It does seem to me that there is a lot of "feature creep" that appears with each expansion of the capacity of the average home computer. Fortulately, there are usually Linux projects like Dillo to solve these problems and give us back our hardware. -- Yellow Submarine? Nah. Its a TeaPot! www.tinyurl.382gmp |
