As does mine, an Irish one.. however, talking to people who work in
that area, I gave up the idea of using the Internet service.

On my previous bank Netscape on Linux used to work fine. Then one day they
changed something and I was no longer able to pay my bills using their
internet service. I called their support and got the answer that Linux was
not a supported platform. Some week later the problem was fixed, but
meanwhile I had already switched to another bank. It is a lot easier to
change to another bank than changing operating system. At least here in
Sweden we have some banks to choose from which are able to write standard
compliant html.

That's not the point. The point is using a program that overloads the
available resources is dumb. The solution to the problem is to either
use a browser that doesn't use too many resources, or get more
resources. Kind of like the solution to rms posts showing up in my
newsreader is to plonk people who think he's worth replying to.

Firstly, you contradict yourself. "Thats not the point" and "use a
browser that doesn't use too many resources". Well elinks fits the
bill doesn't it.
And secondly, I'll reply to whomever I want, "plonk" away if you must.

I don't know. I always got the feeling some of these sites download a chunk
of java and test the system for OS etc....

Just seems strange. The bank will not let me use a current browser
(Firefox/Opera) but has no trouble when I use a 4 year old version of
Netscape. That I don't understand.

You're much welcome. Hope it's a solution for your online banking
problem.

Curious: did it help?
