I have tried to use the Flash 9 plugin under Firefox 2.0.0.* in
Slackware 10.2, and it systematically crashes on any page with Flash
contents? Anybody know if there is a way around this? Also, is this still
happening in Slackware 11?

Firefox 2/Flash 9 working fine on my slack 11 (-current). I always had
trouble configuring the sound with the old version of Flash; the new
version simply worked.

I'm using FF2+Flash9 on 10.2 (with nVidia 8762), it's not perfect but
I'm able to use it most the time without issue on Flash heavy sites.
Occasionally get an issue where a certain web site crashes FF repeatedly
and suddenly starts working a while later, presumably some ad on the
site that upsets things.

I use Flash 9 on 10.2 and it seems to work ok. OTOH, I've always had
probs with mozilla degrading over time when heavily used. Crashing and
failure to load images are typical after long use in one slack ver
install. This has occured in the last 3 vers I've installed, always
full install. It's doing it again, but only to one user account.
Mozzy seems susceptible to corruption over time. I don't know if it's
rogue java scripts or what, but it appears to be inevitable.

It still happens to me from time to time (flash 9.0d55), but it is much
better since I installed the AdblockPlus Firefox plugin.

I can recommend an Firefox extension named Flashblock.

By default all flash is blocked and replaced by an icon, if you click
here the flash is played, and if you rightclick you can whitelist the
sites you use the most so you don't have to start the flash here.

I surf with plugins disabled by default, on enable Flash when I think
its usefull.

Where did you find that version 9.0d55?
The only one I can find is 9.0.31.0 on

if you launch firefox from a terminal, when firefox crashes, is there any
message printed ?
Does the following command (if the flash player plugin is installed in /
usr/lib/firefox):
ldd /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so
shows 'not found' entries ?

As such, I presume it to be the first beta of version 9. I still have it
here and its full version number is 9.0.21.55_beta.
