I thought the same about sata.i in Slackware 11.0, but my recent
experience with it did not confirm that IDE support actually works. I
wrote about it in detail on my blog:

I'm still downloading 12.0, so I can't test to see, but your problem
looks quite similar to what I had with 11.0.
