Default dbmail failing

W23K 64 bit SQL 2005 SP1 64 bit (clustered).

Whenever I start mail with sysmail_start_sp it starts and then stops
with the following entries in sysmail_log.

The read on the database failed. Reason: The error description is
'Whitespace is not allowed at this location.'.

It was working. This started happening after I dropped all my mail
profiles and accounts and recreated them with a different email address.
I've now deleted everything using sysmail_delete_mailitems_sp. It still
falls over straight away.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
