Default Is Sun Management Center bundled with anything?

We have loads of media kits for Sun Management Server, just wondering it
we are entitled to a license based on something we have purchased or
what not.

If not, is it worth the cost (at least the cost Sun lists on their website)?

Thx,
CC

I think you are licenced to run SMC in local mode,
That you can install the server, agent, consol on a single machine.

As soon as you want to run a SMC installation over the network to monitor
many server you need to buy licenses.

IIRC the licens is about $2500 - $3000 per server for server up to the
size of the V880.

What does a disk failure cost you in time and money ?
What does a software failure cost ?

What SunMC does is that it monitors a lot of things by default that
Solaris by it self does not. And the possibilities to configure
probes & monitors on Applications, files, directories, daemons & hardware
is practically limitless. However you need to sit down and study
the manuals for a few days to understand its potential.

It does not monitor "everything" by default. But dont judge it
buy what you see five minutes after installation. You need to
put in a few days of work to configure it so that you get what you want.

When you have it set up so that it warns about:
Too Many http processes ...
To little space in /var ...
Log X is getting to big....
Disc c2t4d0s0 is showing hardware errors....
Printqueue HPLP1 is stalled....
Number of Mutexlocks on server ABCD is high ....
Monitors SUN Cluster.
A.S.O.

And then also makes it possible to replace a disk before it
fails compleatly by warning you its about to happen...

The price is obviously to high for horisontally scaled webfarms
with V100 server.

But the price is bargin for your Database and Application servers
