| Guys, I am trying all the usual stuff, but at wits end on this... Any help from the experts appreciated. Anything I do to boot/install from cdrom, I get the same message, either install 2.6 (5/98) or 8 (2/02). "The file just loaded does not appear to be executable" I have used the install cd, software 1of2 cd and no difference... Please tell me what I am doing wrong! I installed this CD-RW, HP CD-Writer Plus, 9200Series, and I am trying to use it. Seems to recognize it... thanks bsr Here are the system specs: Sun Ultra 60 UPA/PCI (UltraSPARC-II 450MHz), No Keyboard OpenBoot 3.27, 1024 MB memory installed, Serial #. IME, SPARCstations are *very* sensitive to the type of CD drive and the quality of the CDs you try and boot from. I've had most success with Sun CDs and the drive that Sun installed in the machine, and least with home-made CDs and non-OEM CD drives. Also, the older CD drives don't seem to like home-made CDs much. I too have spent hours looking at the "The file just loaded does not appear to be executable" message. You just need to keep trying - eventually you may find a combo that works. Sorry I can't be more constructive, but I've been down exactly this path and have made a shed-load of coasters. Be *certain* that you've blown the CDs correctly - have you another machine you can try on?, you have burned them as ISOs, haven't you? Make sure the CD drive in the machine works - you can mount other CDs? -- "Other people are not your property." [email me at huge [at] huge [dot] org [dot] uk] |

He's using some newer CD drive from HP; I think that the SPARC systems require a 512 byte block size for the drives, though, at least in order to be able to boot from them. Some have a jumper which allows you to set this. Casper -- Expressed in this posting are my opinions. They are in no way related to opinions held by my employer, Sun Microsystems. Statements on Sun products included here are not gospel and may be fiction rather than truth. |

This is what happens if I put an install cd. ok boot cdrom Boot device: /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@6,0:f File and args: The file just loaded does not appear to be executable. and this is what happens if I put a non bootable CD ok boot cdrom Boot device: /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@6,0:f File and args: Bad magic number in disk label Can't open disk label package Can't open boot device ok So, is it still the CD-ROM the suspect? thanks bsr |

Ok, here is the scoop. It does not like the CD-ROM drive I had. I found a Sun CDROM Sun 370-3416 and it is booting 2.6 as we speak. thanks for the support bsr |
