| Gerry, I'm not on the system to find out what version it is running. I know it is the 2nd latest Sol10 release. Whatever was before 06/06 Thanks for the info I'll check on it. gerryt wrote: > "Joe" top posts: > > Solaris 10 03/06? i think > > You THINK? > > > V490 > > Michael Vilain wrote: > > > What OS? But its a very handy tool for "chk"ing things. You could do a diff on /etc/format.dat and /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr/save/pspool/SUNWcsr/reloc/etc/format.dat They should be the same - which they apparently arent. If not: cp -p /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr/save/pspool/SUNWcsr/reloc/etc/format.dat /etc/format.dat should restore that part of the universe to a sane state... > gerryt wrote: > > "Joe" top posts: > > > Solaris 10 03/06? i think > > You THINK? > > > V490 > > > Michael Vilain wrote: > > > > What OS? The /etc/format.dat and /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr/save/pspool/SUNWcsr/reloc/etc/format.dat were not identical. > cp -p /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr/save/pspool/SUNWcsr/reloc/etc/format.dat > /etc/format.dat resolved the problem. answer to earlier question: Solaris 10 3/05 s10_74L2a SPARC Copyright 2005 Sun Microsystems, Inc. Good. Now how is it the file got corrupt in the first place.. pkgchk can audit a system. Dump the results into a file in /tmp You will likely see a lot of noise but some lines may indicate other stuff has been broken. pkgchk -n is sufficient. For example - on my system I see that inetd.conf was altered on July 27. The symlink in /etc was replaced with a file. The original symlink was mv'd to inetd.conf.O. I certainly did not do this, I suspect Blastwave did when installing "sgifam" but anyway, heres what pkgchk says about it: ERROR: /etc/inetd.conf file type <s> expected <f> actual Point is pkgchk made me aware of this. |
