Default does 'format' program handle FCAL drives as well as normal SCSI?

Hi,

I've got a new 73 GB FCAL disk in this Sunblade 1000 which I want to set up
and copy filesystems off an older 80 pin 73 GB SCSI disk to, but when I ran
up 'format' it's not showing up the FCAL disk.

I've checked and the correct packages for FCAL support are installed - fcip,
fcipx, fcp and fcpx. I've restarted the machine with '-r' to add any missing
device nodes in /dev and /devices as appropriate.

I will be double-checking the cabling to make sure it's actually plugged in
properly but failing that, is there anything else which would prevert a
perfectly good, new FCAL drive from showing up when I run up the 'format'
program?

Thanks,

Craig.

Does it show up with probe-fcal-all in the OBP ?

Is the FCAL drive internal to the Sun Blade 1000 or in a diskpack of some
kind?
Does probe-scsi-all at the ok> prompt show both disks?

Don't let the name SCSI fool you!
The Sun Blade 1000's OBP uses the probe-scsi commands for both SCSI and FCAL
disks.

Format should handle your disc. probe-scsi-all at the OBP should give
you some results as well.

Try plugging something into the FCAL port on the back and if it works
you'll at least know your controller works. You'll probably want an
appropriate GBIC and cable (HSSDC).

Given that machine arrived sans half the insides, I could easily
imagine there was a problem that led to it being stripped. Perhaps
someone ditched the entire workstation because of a failed HBA, disc
bay or cables?

You need the 'qlc' driver for the onboard QLogic ISP2200 Controller.
Is it present? I think the package is called 'SUNWqlc' or so.

No, it should work. I even ran non-SUN FCAL disks in my SB1000 without
problems.
