Default Deciding on which Patch to download for a new server

Hey gurus,

I have just installed a Sun Solaris 8 on my home Netra server. I
figured out how an ftp works in order to trasnfer files from my PC
(desktop computer) to the server.

All I am trying to find out is that on a fresh install of Sun Solaris
10 or a Sun Solaris 8 server how would I be able to find out which of
the patches should I download from sunsolve.sun.com.

Anyhelp would be great.
thanks

Hey frank,
I have been trying smpatch command, but the machine says
ksh:not found: smpatch
and it says the same for the PCA command.
At work we are currently using Sun Solaris 8 and soon be upgrading to
Sn Solaris 10. I am new in the team so I still do not have admin
rights to any of the servers.
The "uname -a"
displays this
5.8 Generic_108528-23 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R.
Thanks for the help

Maybe you need to install them then.

smpatch is sun tool, not entirely sure what packages you have to install
to get it, but if you did a "full install" it is installed.

you can find pca by using google.

So the Solaris machines do not have an internet connection?

Go to http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/...tallation.html and
download the pca script and the patchdiag.xref file via the links on
this page.

Put patchdiag.xref into /var/tmp, use "chmod 755 pca" to make the script
executable and run it with "./pca". It will give you a current list of
all the patches you are missing. This will work on both Solaris 8 and 10.

If you *do* have an internet connection, make sure you have wget on
your systems (it comes with Solaris 10, for Solaris 8 you can get a
package from www.blastwave.org). Then you can use pca to keep the
patchdiag.xref file up-to-date and to download patches directly from
Sun.
