| Hi, My system currently has a 501-2324 motherboard. Would I gain anything by upgrading to a 501-2924? I'm having other problems with this system at the moment, and the replacement board would include an NVRAM and Prom 2.25 (my system is running quad Ross 125Mhz.) Suggestions and/or comments welcome!! -RP |

There's a good chance that you can buy better hardware for less than it would cost to fix what you have! Ultra 10 Creator 3D workstations were selling for less than $100 the last time I looked. The slowest processor these support is something like 270 MHz and you can get 440 MHz. The Ultra 10 supports 1 GB of RAM, two IDE disks, 3-1/2" floppy, CD, CD/RW, or DVD. . . . Blade 100, Blade 150, Blade 1000, Blade 1500, Blade 2000 as well as Ultra 30, Ultra 60 and Ultra 80s are frequently available although for a good deal more money. |

Hi Richard, Your comments echo the sentiment of another poster regarding the "real" issues with my system. However, I'm a fan of the old hardware and got this system for free. If I can keep it running for a pittance, that would make my day. I'm a little reluctant to give up just yet... The reason I asked about this upgrade is because it would come with some additional hardware that may be of use... NVRAM, PROM, slightly better framebuffer... that sort of thing. I was just curious if there was any fundamental difference between these boards that would make this a no-brainer upgrade... faster bus speed, etc. Many thanks, -RP |
