| Hi all, I have an Ultra 80 that's otherwise full (4x450, 4GB), but only has one 18GB disk. The easiest option for more space would be a second larger drive from Ebay. But after reading more about iSCSI and Solaris 10... I was wondering if a better long-term option would be to just put a GigE card in and mount some space over the network? The idea would be I could have larger/cheaper drives available over the network than would ever fit in the U80... and theoretically they could be faster as well (onboard U80 SCSI is 40MB/s?) Comments or suggestions? Thanks! |

Not a bad idea. 'Cept youd probably need an offload engine iSCSI card, something that talks to it on the other end, and the iSCSI array. Infrastructure costs. I guess it depends on what you are doing but an Addonics USB card costs about 15$ and you can hang 4 cheap external disks off it. What are you trying to do with this extra disk space..? |
